So we know exactly how to treat them properly. There are a number of ways you can pack your items improperly, but only one way to do it right. From the weirdest items to the most common ones. There is always a way to do it correctly. That’s exactly what we will share with you today. So hop on in, and read all about the best ways to pack fragile items.
Pack fragile items by making a plan
The first step in any good endeavor is planning. Laying a good foundation is important if you want your packing to be effortless and effective. This is the phase where you brainstorm your goals. Am I in a time crunch? When do I need to move?
These are all the questions you should be asking yourself. These are important because they can help you decide whether you want to hire a moving company, or not. For example, if you are in a hurry and need items packed quickly with the highest possible way of reducing the risk of them breaking you might want to consider a moving company. However, if on the other hand you are not in a hurry, and don’t have a lot of fragile items to pack you might decide to do the packing process yourself.
Gather the supplies
Whilst making this plan we recommend that you gather all the important supplies you are going to need for packing fragile items. Of course, the most important supply you need to get is your protective supplies. In other words, the things that are going to make sure your things are preserved during transport. There are a couple of recommendations we can make here.
The cheapest option out there is plain old paper. You can either use writing paper or newspapers. Whatever can be smushed into small balls to provide some layer of protection. However, you do get what you pay for. In the sense that since it is the cheapest option, the protection you are getting is minimal. The second, more costly option is buying packing peanuts. While more costly, these will guarantee your items are safely packed away. Since they are designed to do exactly that. Lastly, the priciest option of all is buying starch pellets. These are more expensive since they are eco-friendly but will do the same job as packing peanuts.
Let’s start boxing
And no, we don’t mean martial art. What we actually mean is that when you made a plan and have gathered all your supplies, it’s time to start packing your items into moving boxes. Without going into too much detail we recommend you get plain old cardboard boxes in different shapes and sizes. Depending on what items you need to store in them. The reason why we recommend cardboard boxes is because they have proved time in time again that they are definitely the most durable substance for relocation ever created. Think we are joking? This person used cardboard boxes as a way to cushion his fall from wingsuit. That’s why most people use cardboard boxes while moving. Because they are durable and they get the job done. Just make sure to get them in the right size!
A tip when packing…
It doesn’t matter where you are going to place your boxes. Whether you are going to hire storage services and leave them in a storage facility somewhere, or you are going to relocate them into your new home. Whatever your motive is, we have a general recommendation to make. When packing fragile items, always make sure that your protective supplies cover the whole inside of the box. In other words, make sure your box is filled to the brim with packing peanuts or its equivalent. This way you are limiting the possibility of your item moving inside the box and damaging itself by banging on the inside of the walls of the moving box. This tip sounds obvious, but it’s just something that is often overlooked by people.
Pack fragile items by labeling the boxes
This is probably the most important step of all. Do not skip this step. Since most people, once they pack everything in their boxes, close everything up, tape it, and shove it in a corner somewhere waiting to be moved. Once the movers come, they start throwing the boxes on the truck and…
Well, you know what happens then right? You come to your new home, open the box and discover that your wine glasses are shattered into pieces. Why? Well because you forgot to label your box. If you labeled it, the guys moving the boxes would know they have to handle that package with care. So you would still have something do drink wine with. So don’t be that guy/girl. Label your boxes as fragile.
